2013 Sub-State Champion Goodland Cowgirls

The Goodland Cowgirls volleyball team won the 2013 Colby 4A Sub-State Championship on Saturday, October 26. Goodland beat Scott City in the first semi-final match in two sets, Colby then beat Hugoton in the second semi-final matchup in three sets to set the pairing for the championship match. In the championship Goodland won the first set 25-22 and held a 24-19 lead late in the second set before a Colby comeback gave the Lady Eagles a 27-25 win to force a third set. In the third set the Cowgirls pulled away late for a 25-18 win and claim the sub-state championship to punch their ticket to the 4A-DII state tournament in Salina. It’s the Cowgirls first trip to state since 2010 and marks the 22nd time a Goodland volleyball team has qualified for the state tournament which is the 5th most state tournament appearances in Kansas high school volleyball history. The Cowgirls are also tied for 6th in state history in state tournament final four appearances.

The Cowgirls will begin play at the 4A-DII state tournament in Salina at the Bicentennial Center on Friday, November 1 with pool play.
