(4-3) Goodland 8, (4-3) Clay Center 7
Goodland opened district play with an 8-7 win on the road at Clay Center Friday night. The 15 combined points matched the lowest total score in the Goodland/Clay Center series history, the first meeting in 1991 combined for the same final score with Goodland winning 8-7 in that matchup as well. Clay Center led 7-0 after the 1st quarter but Goodland responded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Garrett Taylor with just 1:34 remaining in the 2nd quarter to give them the lead after Taylor added the two-point conversion. The touchdown drive was set up by the first career interception by John Peden. The win snapped a 3-game losing skid for Goodland and puts them in the drivers seat of the district with a home contest with Concordia on October 25th. A Goodland victory and a Clay Center win over Colby would clinch a playoff berth for Goodland.
